The first amendment clearly forbids this.

The Supreme Court ruled in 1973 that tax funds could not be used for the maintenance of religious buildings. In its Committee for Public Education and Religious Liberty v. Nyquist decision, the justices stated that:

“[i]f the State may not erect buildings in which religious activities are to take place, it may not maintain such buildings or renovate them when they fall into disrepair.”

“‘The new HUD policy is a reckless extension of Bush’s initiative to provide broad-based financial support to religious groups,’ Lynn said. ‘It will also undermine our country’s efforts to help our neediest.’”

Taking away funds meant to help the needy and handing it over to churches is one of the most repulsive ideas I have ever heard. But it’s business every day for these parasites.

I suspect that you and others around the world know more about the U.S. Constitution than most Americans do.

It astonishes me too, still. But when they can search and seize your property without a warrant signed by a judge (which is required), when they can surveil you without a warrant (which is illegal, or at least it used to be before the Patriot Act), etcetera and so on… when voting is rigged, you have to concede at some point that you’re not free.

And I have no idea what’s to be done, when a population doesn’t WANT protections that a bill of rights affords them. It’s like returning millions of dollars that you won in a sweepstakes.

I’m a little astonished that this should happen in the US, which to my knowledge is a country of freedom and liberty. I’m a Chinese student and happened to enter you website. I think you are right. People should consider the consequence of the passing of the proposition since, as far as I’m concerned, the American people value their Constitution to such.

I miss you and we will always remember you dearly. We had some great times.

Larry and I met on PalTalk in 2003, and just a few months later he moved in with me. We lived together for about a year and parted as good friends. He was a great friend and a sweet man. I will miss his humor and insights, and the fantasic omelettes he always made me. My kids will always remember him for his New York style Egg Cream sodas.

We had a lot of fun together. He was SO stubborn. Once we got in an argument in town and he threw his portable oxygen machine into the street in front of a bus! The machine shattered and Larry stood there glaring at me defiantly, gasping for air. He knew I’d take care of him. Butthead…

I do miss him though.
